Commissions

How To Commission A Painting from Cromwell Gallery

From concept to completion, the client and artist work together to bring an idea to reality. Whether you are commissioning a large or small, public or private painting, the process remains the same. These are the steps you will follow as you commission a painting. Payment structure may vary between artists, so be sure to inquire.

Sometimes you come across the perfect piece of art, colour, style, the perfect story but it might not be the right size. With a number of our artists, we can commision a piece to certain styles and sizes.

The process goes as follows

1. Choosing the artist

Finding the right artist to create your painting is the key to owning a piece you, your family, or your organization, will enjoy and value for a lifetime. It is best to pick an artist whose style reflects what you are looking for and who has experience producing paintings in the style you desire.

At Cromwell we have a number of artists we deal with who have a lot of expieriance producing commisioned pieces. These include

-Sarrita King

-Tarisse King

-Tegan Hamilton

-Rowdy Warren

We have tried to show as much variety of these artists works as possible on our pinterest. Have a look at this link to see a wide range of work from these artists. Pinterest link

2. Provide the artist with information

Before you approach us you may want to answer these questions yourself so you are able to clearly convey your expectations. Be as open as possibe, the artist may have suggestions for you.

  • What size would you like your painting to be?
  • Do you feel strongly that certain colors or shades of color should be included in the painting? If so be sure to let us know so we can tell the artist this.
  • What is your budget? Be honest with yourself and with us. If your budget is tight we can let the artist know. He or she may be able to work with you to let you know how to decrease your costs.
  • What is your deadline?

3. Quote given to client

The artist will give you a quote for the final painting. The quote is an in-depth explanation of what the client should expect and will receive as an end product. The quote also includes the cost, which varies for each piece. During this process it can be decided if any samples will be needed. In the case of really big paintings, small test pieces and sketches can be made first so the client can see what the final piece will look like before commiting to the final piece.

4. First payment due and payment begins

After accepting the quote, a down payment of 25% will be paid and work will begin on the painting.

5. Client receives painting and final payment due

Once the painting is complete, the final payment equal to the remaining amount of the quote is due  and the finished artwork is given to the client. Depending on how you want to receive this painting. We can ship it to you or you can pick up. These will all be decided at the quote stage.
